FIFA World Cup 2022: Rules & Regulations for FootBall Fans in Qatar

1:  Authoritarian rule is a hallmark of the Islamic state of Qatar. Offensive behaviors include using profanity, showing love publicly, and wearing skimpy clothing. Acts of homosexuality are punishable by law. British government travel advice warns that posting something that looks to offend, defame, or is culturally inappropriate might be deemed a crime.

2:   In order to enter the nation, visitors will be required to demonstrate a negative PCR or antigen test, and the monitoring app will be shown throughout the games. Football fans must demonstrate negative results from a COVID-19 test in order to enter Qatar for the World Cup, which begins on November 20. Ehteraz, a government-run phone app that monitors people’s activities and virus status, is mandatory for all guests over the age of 18.

3:  As part of comprehensive reporting limitations that might have a “serious chilling effect” on media coverage, Qatar could prohibit international television crews from conducting interviews with individuals in their private residences during the FIFA World Cup.

According to the rules of shooting permissions provided by the Qatari government, broadcasters like the BBC and ITV will be practically forbidden from recording at lodging sites, such those housing migrant workers.

4:  According to the Official Gazette of Qatar, tourists will now be required to pay QR50 (about $13) as a health insurance premium while in the country. A visa extension will not change the cost. Basic medical care, such as that required in cases of emergency or accident, will be covered by the insurance premium.

5:  Any Qatari citizen above the age of 21 may purchase and consume alcoholic drinks. In “licenced pubs or restaurants,” fans should be permitted to buy booze. Beer will be available to fans after 6.30 p.m. in fan zones and before and after matches in the eight stadium compounds – though not at concourse concession stands – before and after games, and during the evenings only at the official “Fan Festival” which is being held in a park in downtown Doha.

7:  On November 1, 2022, the Ministry of Interior of Qatar declared that, with few exceptions (including for natives of Qatar and holders of a resident permit, among others), admission into Qatar will be suspended for all tourists not attending the FIFA World Cup competition until December 23, 2022.
