I Have a Good Reason for Only Charging My iPhone to 95%

Posted on May 31, 2025May 31, 2025 by Ali Khan

I’m prolonging the life of my iPhone’s battery by configuring a Charge Limit in iOS.

The majority of contemporary phones, including those that are midrange or inexpensive, can last you a whole day between charges. Since I have the most recent model of iPhone, my battery will last me at least 24 hours. Therefore, I’m concentrating on my phone’s battery lifespan—that is, how long the battery lasts during the phone’s life—rather than its daily battery life.

Reducing the amount of time your phone spends charging when its battery is at 100% is one method to extend its battery life. Stress can be experienced by a fully charged battery, which shortens its lifespan and accelerates its degradation.

Thanks to Optimized Battery Charging, your iPhone could already be figuring out how to charge. You may leave your gadget plugged in overnight and it won’t fully charge until the following morning if you have this function activated.

How to establish a limit on charges

Charge Limit is a feature that gives you even more control over your iPhone’s battery. You may lessen the burden on your device’s battery by preventing it from reaching its full potential by setting a Charge Limit.

On the iPhone 15 or later models, you may activate Charge Limit by selecting Settings > Battery > Charging. There, you may select a percentage between 80% and 100% in 5% increments. (Keep in mind that you may only turn on Optimized Battery Charging when it is at 100%.)

Is it ever appropriate to fully charge your phone?

Apple claims that a charge limit helps extend the life of your phone’s battery, and depending on how you use it, iOS may suggest one. The function may benefit your iPhone in the long run, even if you simply use it to limit your charge to 95%.

If your phone is still connected in when the battery is full, though, you shouldn’t lose sleep. According to CNET writer and phone reviewer Patrick Holland, “there are so many different variables that affect battery age and longevity besides just filling it up to 100%.” “Apple and other phone manufacturers employ software to reduce such influences and, if they so want, provide customers with means to take control of that. However, there is a balance, so people shouldn’t be scared to use their phones to the fullest extent possible.”

Sometimes, even with Charge Limit activated, your iPhone may still show 100% charge. “If you have Charge Limit set to less than 100 percent, your iPhone will occasionally charge to 100 percent to maintain accurate battery state-of-charge estimates,” said Apple.
